s9j6j asked: I want to move to NC from SFLA but I don’t know how to begin starting from scratch. Is it easy to get stable in NC like for example find a job, buy a house, is auto insurance cheap? I am twenty years old, I do not have a college degree of any kind, I’ve worked as a file clerk with the same company for 3 years. I have a car. I want to move away from here but I have no clue how to relocate and establish myself. Any tips or personal experience anyone wants to share?

nutella-gal asked: My car was hit about a month ago and I had my insurance took care of it all. And now my car is ready to be taken home. The damage probably cost around >$2000, and they’re 100% covered by the insurance (it’s a $4500 car). The question is, do I expect to tip the mechanics? And if so, how much and who am I supposed to give it to? Because I’m sure it’s a more than 1 person’s job. Thank you for your input.

I’m an Atheist asked: Geico Auto insurance says in their radio advertisement that “you can save $500 by switching to Geico” (we’ll even assume that the $500 figure is accurate – but they don’t state where the $500 figure comes from). I think this ad is clearly deceptive for several reasons.
First of all, it says you “can save” money, not that you “will save” money, but it gives the opposite impression.
Next, it implies that Geico insurance is (on average) $500 cheaper than insurance from other companies which is blatently false.
And finally, and most importantly, it bases the $500 savings on people that “switch to Geico” only. It’s not a comparison of all Geico rates with the rates from other companies. So, naturally, if you switched to Geico (and most people switch companies to save money), their rates will appear to be less than the company they switched “from”.

Pipe F asked: My 16 yr old has her permit – she needs to drive to get the required hours. On inquiry, my insurance company wants 1500 bucks (Michigan ) to add her to one of (a 98 CRV ) my vehicles. Plain extortion if you ask me. What are my options? I don’t have named exclusions on my policy – can she drive without being a named or unnamed driver for that matter – and still be covered? I want her to drive – but that’s crazy money that I don’t have. Anyone have some good tips for me?

? Alexis B ? asked: I currently have a checking account and an auto insurance policy with USAA. They offer a discount on insurance based on what and how many products and services you have with them, therefore, I am thinking about opening a credit card with them (I do not plan on using it).
I currently have an AMEX with a $6,000 limit and currently have a balance of $2000
I also have a Capital One Visa with a $500 limit and have a balance of $300.
My credit score is 705.
I already have 2 other checking accounts (Wachovia & ING) and another higher interest savings with ING, so I don’t want any more banking services…and I don’t plan on making any major purchases for another year or so (buying a house).
Will it bring my score down considering the new inquiry and new card? Is it worth it to open a card and save a couple bucks on car insurance, or should I just leave it be?
