We have been held hostage by the N.A. Auto Industry for far too long. They have been overcharging us for poor quality cars, trucks and SUV that should have been sold for much less. A wise man once told me that had the cost of cars followed the cost of computers that it would be cheaper to buy a new car than to pay a speeding ticket. Well the prices of cars has not decreased but rather increased. It is so nice to finally have an entrepreneur who actually passes the savings on to the consumer instead of padding his own pockets like these owners and chief executives who take millions of dollars annually in salaries, bonuses, and travel allowances. Tata Motors from India has come out with a $2,500 car and a deluxe model for $3,000. Word is that they will be available in North America soon. Imagine every highschool & College student that can afford $3,000 driving an economical, less polluting, practical mode of transportation that costs less than most people’s annual insurance.

Congratulations Ratan Tata. I can’t wait til I can buy one. The North American Auto Companies could have done the same thing but chose to pay exhorbitant salaries to their executives and workers. When the average auto worker gets paid more than a teacher, fireman, police officer, social worker, councillor, or manager I think we as a society have a problem. What you see happening to the auto industry today is that problem coming to a head and popping like a zit. I think ever student should ask for a Tata Nano for highschool graduation.
Ratan Tata is over 6′ tall which is not only tall for an Indian male but tall for any nationality. He fits in it. At 6’4″ I would put in Recaro racing seats so that I would have more leg room and more head room … problem solved. What girl wouldn’t want to be picked up in a sharp new Tata Nano with tinted windows, extra wide tires, and Recaro leather racing seats by a boyfriend man enough to drive one. I’ll take one in Patriot blue.
Actually, a smart girl would realize that the guy now has more money to spend on her since he saved so much on the car and on gas and on his insurance premiums.
Ryder, just think of all the aftermarket customization people could do. It sounds like the SMART car which sells up her for like $18,000 so for 1/6 the price wow what a deal for kids, frugal people, or just folks who want some fun in daily grocery getter and wouldn’t mind it getting scratched in the parking lot..

Zaixin F asked:

In the United States, the rescue effort may also grow. The Treasury Department, officials said, is weighing whether to expand its program of capital injections to encompass insurance companies, many of which own savings and loans, and is under pressure to include the financing arms of the auto companies. The government injections are currently reserved for banks.

question: meaning of ‘arms’ in this text.

thanks.

Can anyone help me with florida subrogation laws?

Ninja J asked:

In 2005 I was in a serious car accident that left me in a hospital for almost a month, I was on life support for several days & in the car accident I was involved as a passenger. After we spoke with all involved insurance companies I settled with the owner of the car I was in and the driver (2 separate auto insurances) After which my health insurance picked up the remaining medical bills. We made them (health ins)aware of one of the PIP settlements(10,000) and paid them back half of that (5,000) Over the years most of my settlement paid for chiropractor appointments/etc. in 2007 I had to have some of my serious scars revised as tissue was separating & causing pain – and after several months the health insurance paid on the claim. Just recently a subrogation service that works for the health insurance sent a letter to recoup from the other driver & car owner. I have already settled & the money we got from them is gone – I will still cooperate with this company but I am pretty sure that they cannot take any money from the other insurances, as we agreed upon settlement not to come after them. (these are progressive auto companies) Does this mean I’ll likely be responsible for the amount they’re trying to recoup? And in Florida, how much can they require me to pay, being a no fault state? I cannot afford a lawyer, and I want to do the right thing, but I’m terrified that I might not be able to pay back whatever amount my surgery cost. Will I have to go bankrupt? I have no car or home, no savings, nothing for them to take, really. Only my credit score which is very, very good. I don’t want to have to turn to chapter 11. Please help!

Excerpts:

Ever wondered what a UAW contract looks like? Here is all 22 pounds of it (in this case, Fords 2,215 page 2007 master contract; Coke can is for scale and because I was thirsty).

Ill tell you this much, those 2,215 pages dont include much regarding efficiency and competitiveness. What youll find are hundreds of rules, regulations, and letters of understanding that have hamstrung the auto companies for years.

If youd like to read the contracts for yourself, here they are:

Fords 2007 Contract:

* Volume 1: Agreements
* Volume 2: Retirement Plan and Insurance Program
* Volume 3: Supplemental Unemployment Benefit Agreement and Plan, Profit Sharing Agreement and Plan (ha!), Tax-Efficient Savings Agreement and Plan, and UAW-Ford Legal Services Plan
* Volume 4: Letters of Understanding
* Volume 5: Skilled Trades Book

GMs 2003 and 2007 contracts:

* GMs 2003 contract (71 megs)
* Changes to GMs 2007 contract (HT: Factory Rats; full contract not available)

Chryslers 2003 and 2007 contracts:

* Chryslers 2003 contract (21 megs)
* Changes to Chryslers 2007 contract (HT: Factory Rats; full contract not available)

Aside from the economy, is this why Big Three are going under?
